The College Football Playoff had no games this past week. Make it make sense. They are still under the illusion that bowl games matter and they should be played on New Year’s Day or New Year’s Eve. Like I said last week, no one will look back on these second round playoff games and say “Remember when Ohio State and Miami played in the Cotton Bowl”? Nope, all people are going to remember is Ohio State and Miami played in a second round playoff game.

Here are the matchups in the quarterfinal round of the College Football playoff:

Seed Home team vs Seed Visitor
#1 (1) Indiana vs. #9 (7) Alabama
#2 (2) Ohio State vs. #10 (11) Miami
#3 (5) Georgia vs. #6 (6) Ole Miss
#4 (3) Texas Tech vs. #5 (4) Oregon

FCS

Just repeating what I said last week. January 5th is the National Championship game between Illinois State and Montana State. Illinois State is the cinderella story. They entered the playoff unseeded, knocked off #16 seed Southeastern Louisiana, then upset #1 seed North Dakota State and finally beat #8 seed UC Davis in the quarterfinals and took care of #12 seed Villanova last week in the semifinals. Montana State is the #2 seed. They got by Yale in the second round, then beat #7 seed SFA in the quarterfinals, and finally beat #3 seed Montana in the semifinals last week.

Here is the matchup in the championship game of the FCS playoffs:

Seed Home team vs Seed Visitor
#2 (2) Montana St vs. (5) Illinois St

DIII

The DIII National Championship game takes place on January 4th between #1 ranked North Central (IL) and #2 ranked UW-River Falls.
