The College Football Playoff first round was played this weekend. Alabama went to Oklahoma and overcame a 17-0 deficit and defeated the Sooners 34-24. Miami went to Texas A&M and defeated the Aggies 10-3 in a defensive battle. Ole Miss took care of business against Tulane 41-10 and Oregon easily handled JMU 51-34.
Because of the convulated playoff schedule, we don’t have games again until December 31st in the “Cotton Bowl”. I put that in quotes because does anyone even consider these playoff games a bowl game anymore? First of all, Ohio State, Indiana, Texas Tech and Georgia deserve home games. They shouldn’t be playing their quarterfinal games in a so-called bowl game. The bowls are dead. Stop trying to prop them up.

FCS
We are down to the National Championship game in FCS. Illinois State is the cinderella story. They entered the playoff unseeded, knocked off #16 seed Southeastern Louisiana, then upset #1 seed North Dakota State and finally beat #8 seed UC Davis in the quarterfinals and took care of #12 seed Villanova last week in the semifinals. Montana State is the #2 seed. They got by Yale in the second round, then beat #7 seed SFA in the quarterfinals, and finally beat #3 seed Montana in the semifinals last week.
Here is the matchup in the championship game of the FCS playoffs:
| Seed | Home team | vs | Seed | Visitor |
